Landscaping or shaping the landscape if you prefer refers to any process or activity that changes the features of a portion of land in a noticeable way, such as living elements of fauna and flora, landforms, such as ground shape and elevation or bodies of water, human elements, like structures and fences, and abstract factors such as elements to somewhat control the lighting and /or weather conditions.
Landscaping is a highly aesthetic landscape art form that needs an amount of practical knowledge having to do with plant knowledge, practical applications and working with various tools. It could be stated that the most early landscaper was the Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus, who spent a great deal of time pondering the environment and different scopes of landscaping.
Where most early landscapers argued that true landscaping modifies plants or fields directly, like in the actions of cultivation of food crops, Thales rejected this definition of landscaping or shaping the landscape, saying that any aspect of the physical world affecting a person’s visual perception of an area of land was a correct application of landscaping. Landscape and landscaping are surrounding each and everyone of us.
Both Aristotle and Plato had nothing but praise for Thales philosophical modeling involving landscape and landscaping, as well as how his theories could be applied elsewhere in philosophical exploration. G.E. Moore also cited Thales in many of his own philosophical works expressing how philosophical discourse and inquiry has led to the truest forms of human evolution and understanding.
Then in the 1800s a lot of philosophers debated whether or not visual beauty could even be considered a required objective of landscaping or controlling landscape, though by this time a lot of western philosophical thinkers had grown to refuse the idea of an objective aesthetic standard for any type of art, whether architecture or landscaping
Landscaping professionals and practitioners since the later half of the 20th century have experimented with impressive visual landscape panoramas that have since become widely accepted as falling into the category of landscaping, at least in the occident.
Most of the time we do not appreciate the quiet beauty of nice landscaping arrangements. In our busy life the time to look around and be aware of the beauty around us has become a luxury. Next time you go out of your office on a nice sunny day, why don’t you sit silently on a park bench and appreciate the landscaping around you. This well known author is an Internet enthusiast and surely likes to share his information with readers like you.
