Homeschooling Without A Curriculum Provider

I have been homeschooling from the beginning of this year, 2008, registered with the Department of Education Mpumalanga, and from the Mid of last year without registering my Grade R child. My children Grades (1) one and (5) five, are what you would call very active kids. Me, on the other hand call them normal in every way. Why I say that, well, let me see because children are suppose to be active, thats the part of our lives that we enjoyed the most. Then again we had big yards, moms at home, big families, grandparents close by and list goes on... Our children are made to grow up early by TV standards and not by cultural and ethical standards and being exposed to the most unnecessary things that are just corrupting their minds, minds that at their age are starving for knowledge, know hows of whats what and where. There are so many reasons for any parent to choose homeschooling and those were just some of the reasons why I chose it. Now for the main topic how to go the homeschool route without the help of the curriculum providers. For one they are a bit expensive when theres only one parent working in a family, but one the other hand there are a lot of help when you pressed for time. I have been doing research for a number of years and have been collecting books for children and how to books for myself to do with children, so Ive accumulated quiet a large collection and Ive also invested in a book selection and a DVD selection of encyclopaedias. But my most valued selection of books are my text books and study guides (bought from fairs and 2nd hand book stores). If I did not have these I would find teaching, especially Maths, as the new text books are very difficult to learn from and then teach to child whom expects you to be a pro at what you teaching. Without the expense of paying for a curriculum provider, I was able to buy a lot of other helpful resources from the internet (website at bottom of article) and with these creative and fun ways of learning, I won back the love of my children, [they were finding it a bit uneasy having me 24/7] but all in all we, as a family husband/father included, enjoy our homeschooling experience completely. Visit the website and find out more about homeschooling, especially if you live in South Africa.
