Social Media Marketing And Email Marketing Moving Prospects
I just had a person tell me that after all his years in business, he had acquired 1500 subscribers on his email list. He wanted 15,000 subscribers in a period of a few months with a very small budget. I’m talking about a matter of weeks. Who wouldn’t want to grow the number of subscribers to an email list by 10 times, in a matter of weeks without spending much (if any) additional money? I realize that an eventual goal of social media marketing, video marketing, Twitter marketing, Facebook marketing and mobile marketing is to convert followers into email subscribers. However, just like most people date for awhile and get engaged for awhile before they get married, I think businesses are wise to court online relationships before they ask for a commitment, like giving up a name and email address. It is much easier to get people to follow you on Twitter, subscribe to your channel on YouTube or like your page on Facebook. Why? Because it doesn’t take much time and they don’t have to give away their email address. I’m not saying you couldn’t build a quality email list without using the other online marketing and social media tools, but I wouldn’t bet on it. The odds are certainly against you that you could do it quickly and/or inexpensively. I’m an advocate for activities online that maximize your probability of success. As a matter of strategy, if you want an email marketing list, let me encourage you to start by building tribes of followers on major social media accounts first. Once you have provided valuable knowledge, demonstrated your expertise and earned the trust of your tribe over a reasonable period of time, then it is OK to invite them to your email list. If you’re good at what you do and you patiently serve your tribe, then those people will join your list when they are ready. If you push your luck before you should, then you are likely to blow relationships you would have otherwise gained.
