Car Shipping Companies - Auto Shipping Questions-part 2 Of 3

Car Shipping Companies - Auto Shipping Questions - An FAQ - Part 2 Of 3 Who will be driving my car or truck while it\'s being transported? Once your car is on the trailer, it sits there until it is unloaded for you. This is possible because the truckers know exactly where they are going and they can load up the cars in reverse order from how they will be delivered. It\'s quite the logistical feat, but that\'s their job, so there\'s nothing for you to worry about. Just to clarify, your car stays on the truck for the duration of transport. I have heard about door-to-door service, what is that? There are two types of pickup and delivery. The first involves you dropping off and picking up your vehicle at a terminal. This is a location where you drive your car to so it can be loaded on the truck. The other type is where the truck comes to your home and picks up the vehicle. While you can save money using terminal pickup and delivery, door-to-door is more convenient. Okay, so, I\'m getting the feeling that I have to be present when they pick up the vehicle? This is true. You will need to be present when picking up and dropping off your vehicle. Which, as you can imagine, is something that you would want to do anyway. You\'ll need to sign for the pickup and get a receipt for the vehicle, and when it\'s dropped off, you\'ll need to check it for any damage. How far in advance do I need to place my order? Actually, that depends. Certain times of the year are more busy than others and finding a hauler to transport your vehicle might be difficult on short notice. Sometimes, it can be done in as little as 1 to 7 days, but to be on the safe side, you should give as much notice as possible. Allowing for plenty of time gives you a better chance of having your vehicle transported and delivered when you need it. What kind of payment methods are accepted? Most car shipping companies will not take a personal check, though a certified check is usually fine. Some will take a deposit and the balance is due upon delivery. This balance can, typically, be paid in cash, money order, certified check or credit card. Can I pack my car with stuff so it\'s shipped with my car? Probably not. Most auto transporters aren\'t licensed to carry household goods. As a rule of thumb, if it didn\'t come with the car, you can\'t ship it. This isn\'t a bad thing, though. Car shippers aren\'t responsible for what\'s inside your vehicle and if it\'s broken into and your stuff is stolen, there\'s no recourse that you can take. It\'s better to move your stuff with stuff movers, and leave the car shipping to the auto transporters. Do I need to buy extra insurance to protect my car during transport? It should be included, but you need to check with the car shipping company to make sure that they are carrying the proper amount of insurance for your vehicle. Typically, this is covered in the agreement, but make sure to get it in writing. How long will it take to ship my vehicle? There are several factors that go into how fast your car can be shipped. What time of the year you are shipping your vehicle, how far your vehicle is going, and what kind of vehicle it is. These are the main issues that affect how long it will take to transport your car. The car shipping company will be able to give you an estimate when you talk to them. What kind of paperwork do I need to ship a car? So long as your vehicle isn\'t leaving the country (USA) you won\'t need to provide any paperwork for the transport. The car shipping company will prepare all of the paperwork for you. If you are transporting internationally, you will need to provide some paperwork on the vehicle, but the auto transporter will let you know what that is, as it varies for different countries. We continue answering more questions in the third and final part of this series.
