How To Collect Buttons

Button, Button, Who's Got the Button is an old game played by children played for well over a hundred years at least. But it could also be to the saying for a group of hobbyists who collect buttons. Button collecting has probably been a hobby for as long as there have been buttons in existence. The following information discusses some of the ins and outs of this amazing hobby of collectible buttons. Finding buttons to start your button collection is not very hard. You can still find tins and jars of old buttons at local flea markets or by stopping at garage or yard sales, your local thrift shop, local rummage sales, pawn shops, local auctions and possibly even in your grand mother's attic. All of the buttons you find in this way may not have the value or the fine materials of the antique or vintage buttons, but any old buttons show a variety of interesting materials, and an endless variation of designs. Buttons which have interesting features, may not be quite collectible material but they can be used for crafts or for for a collection based on different designs or materials. Some button collectors deal in specific eras or types of buttons. Buttons made for the military, 17th and 18th Century buttons, the Victorian era or miniature paperweight buttons are all genres you could consider. There are thousands of button types to choose from. There are a number of ways to store your button collection as well. Some simply keep them in jars, others use special holders or cards to mount the buttons while others have special cabinets made to store their collections. It's all up to you.
