Identify Your Skills To Get The Right Job

If you are looking for a job, chances are that you have already prepared a resume and are using it as an effective tool to market yourself to the prospective employers. But are you yourself fully aware of your skills and strengths and are you ready to present them to the interviewer. Sometimes, candidates are not able to present their skills explicitly to the employer and sometimes this leads to getting in the wrong job. Your soft skills are as important as your hard skills while catching attention of the employer. So, you must identify all yours skill sets before going for any job interview. When one gets an interview call, one tends to study more about the company and the job profile. This is good practice but dont forget to revise your own skills too before appearing for the interview. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses and try to formulate a way in which you can present the former and cover up the latter. This will help you immensely during the interview. Once you know what you are very good at, you will be able to convince the employer better and get the job that you really want to get. However, be wary of becoming over-confident because this might jeopardize your job chances. Tactfully present your skills to the employer or he will tag you as unfit for the job. Your accomplishments and skill sets should shine in a prominent but pleasant manner during the interview. This will become your ticket to your dream job. Once you are able to put across your gifts and talents in front of the employer in a manner that is not arrogant or condescending but positive and confident, half the battle is won. The employer would appreciate that you believe in your abilities and are confident of using them for the betterment of the organization. This will also give a good understanding to the employer that you are aware of your competence and he would not offer a lesser salary to you. Once you have made clear your own abilities, it would be easier for the employer to assort you from the other candidates who are also appearing for the same job. All this should also come across well in your resume. After all, your resume is your first introduction with the employer. That is where you make the first impression and more often than not, first impression is the last impression. When you are writing your resume, write about your accomplishments, achievements, accolades and professional advantages in detail. Give a clear overview to the interviewer that you mean business. If you have been successful in your previous stints, make no bones about it. Highlight it sufficiently on the resume. Write about the appraisals that you received, about the projects that you carried out and also about the recognition that you received at the previous workplace. When the interviewer reads the resume, he should be in a positive framework of mind to interview you. Make sure that you mention both your hard skills and soft skills on the resume. While hard skills are tangible and pertain to your qualification and trainings, soft skills are more abstract and intangible in nature. No employer can gauge them from your degrees. You have to identify them and mention them explicitly on the resume. For instance, you have to give examples that prove your leadership skills, your team building skills, your enthusiasm towards work and so on. These kinds of qualities can define the success of a professional. Sometimes, people tend to not include their hobbies and volunteer activities in the resume. This is a mistake. Though it might not be directly related to the job you are applying for, it will showcase your interests and inclinations to the employer, thereby giving him a fair idea of your potential. Make a mental note of including even the minor things that project you in a positive light in front of the employer. This will also give you a fair idea of what you really want to do. Once you know what you are good at, you can easily identify the kind of job that will provide enough opportunities for you to practice those skills and put those attributes to best use.
