Yoga At Home With Or Without A Kids Yoga Dvd
Why yoga for children? A decade ago, that question was most likely asked about karate and other types of martial arts. Now, there are martial arts classes for children everywhere you look. And, like martial arts, yoga helps to develop many fantastic qualities in children. Apart from the obvious benefits of exercising the physical body, both martial arts and yoga sharpen the child's ability to focus, cultivate lasting self-confidence, and develop self-discipline. Yoga for children, if practiced regularly, helps them to become aware of themselves inside and out. Growth and changes in new and positive directions can blossom from such an awareness. In my seven years of teaching yoga in the classroom, I never fail to become absolutely delighted at the self-discoveries children make through yoga. Children, especially the younger ones, are so fresh and unhampered by the world at large. Their approach to life is unique and imaginative. Teaching yoga in the classroom encourages creativity to flow; fears, anger, and sadness to fall away; trust in their inner selves to shine; and hearts and minds to synchronize. What more gratifying gift could a teacher (or parent) ask for? Whether you're a parent, teacher, or both, there are numerous ways in which you can incorporate yoga into the lives of your children. You can try a kids yoga dvd, or you can simply do a guided practice with your kids if you know what you're doing. Here are a few tips: -Schedule a special time of the day to practice yoga with your kids/students. Take some time in the morning or evening, and follow it with relaxation. -If you're at home, create a sacred space for practice. Decorate it with pictures and objects that have special meaning for your child, and make sure you have plenty of room to move around. Use a candle for focus during meditation. -How long do you practice yoga? With preschoolers, 10-15 minutes is a good time frame to start with. Each exercise or pose should last 30 seconds to a minute. You can add more time as they get used to it, and develop the ability to stay focused. Elementary school children should be able to keep up for twenty minutes, including a few minutes of meditation or relaxation. Each child is different, of course, but it's generally better to start off easy and build up gradually. -Whether you're watching a kids yoga dvd at home or practicing yoga in the classroom, always keep it light-hearted and fun. Entice your child with imaginative, engaging, and even humorous exercises.
